WHAT WAS CLAIMED

US President Donald Trump has insulted Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over his plans to recognise Palestine.

OUR VERDICT

False. The Truth Social post is fake.

AAP FACTCHECK - US President Donald Trump has not called Prime Minister Anthony Albanese a "loser" over Australia's plans to recognise Palestine, despite a screenshot of a supposed Truth Social post appearing online.

The screenshot, which has been shared on Facebook, is a fake.

"Anthony 'Airbus' Albanese, Australian PM, will recognise Palestine as a state," the supposed Truth Social post reads. "Well, today I recognise Anthony as a TOTAL RETARD!

"He has privately begged for meetings with me, but why would I meet a life long LOSER? He is about to BAN the Australian people from social media. Such a shame, Australians deserve better. We love AUSTRALIA! #MakeAlboGoAway #MAGA"

"Finally Donald Trump expresses his opinion of Anthony Albanese and many Aussies agree with him," one person said in sharing it, while another wrote, "Def agree with the Trumpster on this one."

The post has similarities to a genuine Donald Trump post, but there are several signs it's fake. (AAP/Facebook )

The post references the prime minister's announcement that the government plans to recognise the state of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September, and the incoming ban on some social media platforms for under 16s.

The earliest version of the fake post appears to be from an X account known for posting similar fake content.

AAP FactCheck has debunked similar posts originating from the user.

There is no evidence of the post appearing on Trump's actual Truth Social account.

There is also no record of such a post on Trump's Truth, an independent web archive of his posts on Truth Social.

No mainstream news reports have repeated the alleged comments by the US president.

The supposed post does not match the font on Trump's legitimate Truth Social posts, which also carry a small black Truth Plus logo next to the red tick, and there's no timestamp on the shared fake post.
