OUR VERDICT

False. Dr Fauci has not been charged.

AAP FACTCHECK - The New Zealand government has not charged former top US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci with negligent homicide, despite claims being made online.

Local authorities confirmed the claim is false.

The claim appears in a Facebook post featuring a photo of Dr Fauci, the former chief White House medical adviser during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This guy will never be able to leave his house again," the text says.

"He now has warrants for his arrest in 14 countries.

"The government of New Zealand has charged Anthony Fauci with 107,357 counts of negligent homicide."

Dr Fauci was the director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases from 1984 to 2022 and advised both the Trump and Biden administrations.

New Zealand Police confirmed there is no truth to the claim.

"That is not accurate in any way whatsoever," a spokeswoman told AAP FactCheck.

A search for "Anthony Fauci" and the terms "charges," "arrest," and "negligent homicide" across publicly available NZ government databases, including Ministry of Justice court records and media releases, returned no relevant results.

There is also no evidence of such charges in NZ police updates.

A search of the surname "Fauci" did not surface any wanted persons in Interpol's Red Notice database.

The claim has previously been debunked by Logically Facts.
