WHAT WAS CLAIMED
A video of a man kissing a child shows 'Sharia law'.
OUR VERDICT
False. The video shows an Italian father kissing his daughter at a Catholic wedding.
AAP FACTCHECK - A video of an Italian father kissing his daughter is being falsely linked to Islam in social media posts.
The clip was actually filmed during a Catholic wedding ceremony.
The false claim appears in a Facebook video from an Australian user and shows a man in a suit giving a ring to a girl in a dress before he hugs and kisses her as a crowd watches on.
"This sharia law," overlay text reads.
Another post shared the video stating: "Islam is a mental illness", while other posts claim it depicts a child bride.

A reverse image search reveals the clip is actually from a longer video filmed during a wedding reception in Italy.
It was originally posted on TikTok on September 28, 2025, by a wedding guest.
The longer version shows the bride gifting her bouquet to the girl before the man in the suit surprises her with a ring.
Other TikTok videos show the same adult bride and groom and the wedding ceremony (timestamp 28 seconds) taking place inside a church.

The building's interior and exterior match the Catholic Church of Gesu in Casa Professa, which is a tourist attraction in Palermo, Sicily, according to a reverse image search.
In the comment section of the video, the original TikTok user confirmed that the married couple are the girl's parents, and her father was presenting her with a gift.
